Song For The Rivers; Aku Sedih. Slamet Gundono+ Apache

Back

NOTE: I previously gave faulty email, for contact see below. An Indigenous Education and Society Of Scout-Trackers collaboration with Pak Slamet Gundo and Communitas Wayang Suket. Filmed and edited by Afrinsal Malna. Singing this song for the Rivers/Waters is my great freind and collaborator, Pak Slamet Gundono, he is accompanied by his brilliant community of artsits, Wayang Suket. Pak Slamet is a truly extraordinary human being! In terms of singing he can switch from the gentlest lullaby in the sweetest of gentle tones to the most heart rending, all powerful, reach to the Sky's and depths of the Earth prayer song; he compsoses on the spot effortlesly and with exquisite beauty, he improvises with just about anyone like a Dream and has a heart and mind generous and big enough to light up the entire world! He is in short an artisitic, musical, singing genius, a brilliant composer, performance maker and friend! Thank you Pak Slamet Gundono and Kiki-Pak Slamet's lovely wife- and Nandun-Pak Slamets wonderful son. Thank you communitas Wayang Suket! Apache is perfoming in movement, a song for the Rivers, the Waters, what I call a Silat-Capoeira-Kung Fu Solo Water Form-"Aku Sedih." Why "Water Form?" Because on a several month trip to Indonesia I was working daily with the waters; much of my training has come from and with 'the waters.' Most of the time I was staying in a small village by a river; there I rose around dawn everyday to pray at the river; for the waters. Simple, but profound. FACT: Indigenous Knowledge has largely been wiped out by religious-cultural colonialism, then the world becomes polluted and exploited and how to do things, like take care of the waters gets forgotten. In the end people end up making speeches about "the powerful protecting the weak and that's why we need the arms fair!" or "That's why we need to invade such and such a country. " During 2004 I made a project about the Waters, pollution and Indigenous Knowledge. I devised two performances "Our's Is Not A Rubbish Earth," and "Aku Sedih." I composed songs for the performances (and just to sing here and there-everywhere!) of the same titles." I had much help and collaboration and here Dalang Pak Slamet Gundono is singing the song "Aku Sedih," with his group. Being as I was working-HEAVILY- with the Waters on a daily basis and that much of my Movement and Martial Arts study "has been under the DIRECT INSTRUCTION of 'The Waters'," and that this piece is being performed to a water song, hence the You Tube title; "Silat-Capoeira Water Form 1" . The movement is externally mostly Capoeira, but there is a strong flavor and cultural elements-( i.e. music)- of Silat as well as a few moves direct from these Indo/Malay Arts. Strangely at the end of my trip that huge and devastating Tsunami hit....I was due to be in West Sumatra but something said, "Don't go..." The full performances of "Aku Sedih," and "Our's Is Not A Rubbish Earth," is extremely well documented and the written account is an exceptionally detailed account of my way of combining modern performance with ancient Indigenous Knowledge. It is pretty much a complete account of 'Art Reindigenised' . Both projects form part of Indigenous Education and the RELACSS Project and the training is a part of The Society Of Scout Trackers, who insist on training and learning directly with-In- Nature, under Natures direct tutelage and under all conditions and also in any environment, be it 'natural' or 'man made'. RELACSS Project is the abbreviation of "The Reindigenisation Of land, Art, Culture, Science and Society." I coined the verb 'to Reindigenise," (Reindigenize) in order to best describe the necessary proces of realigning ALL cultural, social and personal aspects and elements of Life with the integrity of Indigenous being; the utter belonging to our home Planet Earth, firmly within the Big Family of Life; Plants, Tress, Creatures, Minerals, Stellar Bodies ............and so on! My view is this; ONLY when humans are truly living Indigenously can our decisions possibly behove well for future generations and for the entire Circle of Life! 'Indigenousness' is highly complex and multi-multi layered-concept- thing! A word of caution please; in my oppinion, one should not carelessly use the word 'Indigenous' whilst knowing essentially next to nothing of what the word means or implies. There is a core essential level; belonging naturally/to the nature of a place. What the, perhaps infinate implications of this means on social, personal, cultural, spiritual levels are is an immense study! It requires arduous study and TIME to digest ( to understand that one is studying an ever deepening way) , but that is a worthy and noble path and without this knowledge, humans stray down mistaken, and deadly paths as we can see around us today.
